The custodian is responsible for maintaining the facility in a clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Follows infection control policies and procedures of facility and department including the practice of universal precautions.
Follows hazardous materials policy when handling such materials or dealing with spills or hazardous waste and cleaning of equipment.
Reports any needed repairs to housekeeping supervisor.
Keeps hallways and entrances clear of debris at all times.
Follows cleaning schedules as directed by supervisor.
Sweeps, dusts, and mops floors daily.
Spray buffs hard surface floors as scheduled.
Strips and waxes floors, hallways, and resident rooms per housekeeping schedule.
Operates buffers and scrubbers in a safe manner at all times.
Shampoos carpeted floors as directed.
Removes soil, stains and debris from stairwells.
Washes walls as assigned.
Keeps custodial equipment clean.
Changes laundry chemicals as needed.
Transfers housekeeping supplies from loading dock to store room.
Attends educational inservices as required.
Other duties as requested.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk. The employee frequently is required to stand while mopping floors or operating buffer; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, or kneel; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, all in order to observe areas that need to be cleaned, insure that they are clean, and to operate equipment safely around visitors, staff, and residents.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The custodian position requires blood borne pathogens protection. The associate is provided with protective clothing and personal training via videotape as well as access to regulations and policies.
$9.00 per hour, $0.40 shift diff, $2.00 diff for weekends
